And suddenly, Clay's first year is half over. We celebrated his half birthday on March 5.
He's our little explorer, wanting to touch and taste everything in sight.
Like my camera's strap, for instance.
Or my hair. Or the carpet. Church bulletin. Germy highchair at a restaurant. Anything, really.
His curiosity is now strong enough to motivate him to scoot. roll, and spin across the floor until he captures want he wants and sinks his gums into it.
Most importantly, he has learned to initiate kisses.

Then I feel sad because my baby is such a baby and not a newborn anymore. Eric smiles and reminds me that Clay's going to college soon.
But we're all growing older. Here's a picture of Clay and me on my twenty-seventh birthday. I woke up that morning to my baby babbling in his crib. I opened the nursery door, he flashed me a grin, and I carried him to his changing table. While changing his diaper (not a task I'm ever that thrilled to do), I teared up because I was so happy to spend my birthday as his Mommy. I thought to myself this is the first time I've ever wanted to wake up and do my job on my birthday. Motherhood really is the best job ever.
Two weeks later, Eric turned twenty-eight. Here's a picture of the birthday boy with his baby.
Grampie was here to share his birthday with Eric. Grampie's birthday was the most exciting of all because he turned 60!
Grammie and Grampie were able to spend the week with us. Thankfully, Minnesota cooperated and we had pretty nice weather for a March visit.
Eric and I took advantage of our babysitters and spent our first overnight away from Clay at a lake resort just over an hour away.
Clay also took advantage of his babysitters and made sure to wake up frequently overnight because he knew Grammie would be more than happy to snuggle and rock him back to sleep.
