We've had lots of fun activities to enjoy this October. We were visited by Grandma and our friend Bri from Wisconsin. We celebrated Halloween a few times and Clay got the chicken pox (a mild case after the vaccination).
Meanwhile, baby girl is growing and healthy. She and I have spent a crazy amount of time this month working on my thesis paper. She's great motivation to get work done while I still have a few weeks left (6.5!) before her arrival.
On the one hand, she's positive encouragement that I have something wonderful to look forward to once I finish my degree. On the other hand, she's negative reinforcement to work quickly because I feel older than English Literature itself if I sit at the computer too long. Either way, she keeps me going.
Here's a comparison collage of baby boy in July 2013 and baby girl in October 2014. Baby girl is less active than her brother. But nights like last night, I'm ready for bed by 8:30 p.m., and I'm barely able to move my lower body. I don't remember that feeling so much with Clay. It's hard to know how much of that feeling is having a toddler versus being eight months pregnant.

Clay dressed up for Reformation Sunday and for Halloween. For Halloween, Clay was a football. (Aunt Angie made the awesome suggestion that baby girl should have dressed up as a basketball.) For Reformation, Clay wore his first suit jacket. Outfits for both occasions were provided by Grandma. On Halloween, we took Clay to meet Curious George at Barnes and Noble - he was in awe - and to see the animals at Pets' Mart. Clay is going through an intense kitty phase right now. In the evening, Clay took cookies to our neighbors with a note that read, "It's a TREAT to be your neighbor!" Then we passed out candy at home and he cried every time someone came to the door. |
Clay is really into Curious George and Daniel Tiger these days. Jeopardy remains a favorite. He now sings along with the Final Jeopardy jingle.
He is also into onomatopoeia. He says the following (with translation):
That's what's up this month. Finally, a fall family photo thanks to Bri.
I'm not sure the gloves and hats in my sweatshirt pocket are really working in my favor in this photo, but here we are at St. John's Abbey, nonetheless. I didn't realize until we got there that day that I wore my St. John's Lutheran hoodie to St. John's (Benedictine) Abbey.
As if Eric's Lions sweatshirt didn't already give away that we were outsiders.
He is also into onomatopoeia. He says the following (with translation):
- buhrr = ribbit
- high pitched ee = meow
- lower pitched ee = woof
- ngum = vroom
- loud, intense da da da = Go Cardinals! (that last one doesn't fit the category, but it's pretty cute)
